"I do get The Gourdzette and I think it is an awesome
newsletter. I love the projects in it and reading all the other
information you have in it. I ordered the Down
in the Gourd Patch book, and I must say your
shipping was superb. I never had anybody ship something that quick
to me before. California Gourds has to be the best company I have
ever dealt with. Your site is the best and the shipping of orders
are the best too. Thank you again. I love your company and your
site. Thank you."

Quick & Creative Thanksgiving Ideas!
by Courtney Buckingham

Table
Runner. Since we love gourds, we chose to
use them in our Thanksgiving celebration centerpiece! We think
you can dig deep into your cupboards and find these supplies
already there.
We started off with a table runner in harvest colors. Next
use a candleholder of your choice. Place towards the center
and go from there. Place gourds around the candles. Even use
pumpkins and squash. Fall leaves add a nice touch too. Use what
you have, match your home décor, and have fun!
Fall
Garland. This fall garland strand is an easy
way to bring some seasonal color to your home.
Think of all of the supplies you can get right in your yard.
We used bright leaves, pinecones, dried wheat, and small bottle
gourds to decorate our garland.
A quick trip to the hardware store and we had our strong twine
for the main garland support and our wire to twist around our
leaves to hold them on.
At the top of the gourd, we drilled one hole on each side in
order to string it on to the twine. Place the leaves and other
dried goods wherever you chose. Wrap the wire around the middle
and twist at the back. Try to use the foliage to cover most
of the wire, as you don’t want the wire to show through.
The finished product is full of harvest cheer.
We thought that you could even go the next step for the winter
holiday season and paint the gourds up as snowmen and change
the fall leaves to holly and evergreens! Use creativity! The
possibilities are endless.
Gourd
Chiminea. This simple gourd chiminea is great
as a tabletop decoration indoors and out. Once lit, the tea
light inside illuminates just right to set the atmosphere for
fun and conversation. Here are some quick, easy steps to make
your own chiminea.
Choose
a medium size gourd. We used a bottle gourd. Use a pencil to
outline the opening that you want. Use a cutting tool to carve
out the opening. (Remember watch out for the dust inside, it
may irritate some!) Sand the inside and the edges of the opening.
Depending on the finished look you are going for, you may want
to use a leather dye or stain to treat the outside of the gourd.
It’s very important to drill holes in the top for ventilation!
Place a tea light candle with a metal ring around the base
inside of the chiminea, light the candle and you are set.
Have a Happy
Thanksgiving!
From all of us at California Gourds
Extra Gourd Tip
- Always be sure to use some type of a dust mask when cutting,
carving and burning gourds. The dust can be harmful to your
lungs. For more basic gourd safety, click

JASMIN'S CORNER |
Visions
of a young aspiring gourd artist. Jasmin Diaz is 6 years old and
has been playing with gourds all of her life. We thought it would
be fun to put her work and words into this edition of The
Gourdzette. We hope you enjoy!
Gourd Princess
by Jasmin Diaz
First I painted
it with yellow and purple paint. Then I put feathers on the back
with glue. Ther feathers were for the clothes to keep her warm.
Then I glued pipe cleaners on fro the hair that are pink. I put
glue and gold glitter on for the crown. I put on wiggly eyes with
glue. Then there was purple and pink fuzzy balls that I put on
for buttons. Then I glued on beads for a necklace. And I really
like it a lot. I had fun making her.
Send us your kids'/grandkids' crafts with a write up as to
how they created them, and we will publish them in an upcoming
edition of The Gourdzette! We hope to inspire you with their ideas,
and we hope to encourage the children to continue creating their
art by seeing their projects in print! Please send project emails
to our Editor at editor@gourdzette.com.
Thank you! |
